Job Description

In this role as an India Chief Risk Officer in Wise’s second line Risk Management Team, you will be a key contributor in, and risk partner for the delivery of the risk management framework in India. This role is an exciting opportunity for you if you have significant risk management experience and are looking to do impactful work. The role will be under the APAC Risk team and reports to the Regional Head of Risk for South East Asia and South Asia.

Here’s what will you be doing:

  • Act as the primary risk partner for the business in India, developing and executing a global risk management strategy tailored to India. 
  • Implement the Wise enterprise risk management framework, risk appetite, and other applicable risk policies at the local level to support India in managing risks effectively and meeting local regulatory requirements.  
  • Manage local regulatory relationships and engagement, representing the management during regulatory reviews around risk; 
  • Drive/review risk and controls self-assessments and documentation by first-line functions/risk owners, providing risk advisory and second-line review and challenge where relevant; 
  • Collaborate with product teams to integrate risk insights into product changes, new product launches, and address emerging risks in the region.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root cause and impact, specifically regarding incidents, and supporting remediation efforts; 
  • Report risk updates directly to the local Board of Directors and the Regional Head of Risk; 
  • Create risk awareness through training and regular communications to first-line teams and supporting them in regulatory or internal audits; and 
  • Involvement in regional or global projects to ensure local compliance and integration with global risk toolsets.

 

Qualifications

  • Significant experience (8+ years) in the financial services or payments industry, with deep expertise in the local regulatory landscape in India.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing comprehensive risk management frameworks, with a strong command of governance, risk reporting, and risk policy oversight.
  • Proven track record of engaging with executive leadership, board members, and external regulators; exceptional ability to influence and lead across cross-functional, global teams.
  • Extensive experience in enterprise risk, operational risk, regulatory risk and/or technology risk management. 
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and project managing risk management initiatives with strong business engagement.
  • Strategic mindset and ability to operate independently, bridging local operational needs with global risk standards in a fast-paced environment.
