What we’re looking for

SurveyMonkey is seeking a bright, talented commercial lawyer to join its legal and corporate affairs team.  We are looking for a Counsel - Commercial Transactions with experience in SaaS business issues and transactions.  This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in helping to scale a growing internet business. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this role will require you to primarily focus on enterprise commercial transactions and will involve extensive collaboration with members of various SurveyMonkey teams, including sales, finance, operations, security and procurement teams. We are looking for team members who share our interest in engaging legal issues and who apply a creative, and thoughtful approach when providing legal advice. As a SaaS business, we often operate on the leading edge of the legal sphere, where the law struggles to keep up with technology and the rules get fuzzy. This makes our work very interesting.

What you’ll be working on

  • Have responsibility for negotiating, drafting, and advising on a broad range of customer facing agreements, including SaaS Enterprise Agreements and ancillary documentation related to sales deals, such as NDAs, order forms, DPAs, partnership agreements, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with internal clients and key stakeholders (including the sales, sales operations, security, finance, and management teams) by providing legal advice on relevant legal topics.
  • Actively support the Procurement team to navigate complex contractual negotiations, including security and privacy related matters.
  • Negotiate and advise on customer and vendor privacy related agreements.
  • Proactively provide training and ongoing support to internal teams on sales and contractual matters, including developing internal playbooks and training.
  • Take the initiative to recommend and implement improvements to commercial policies, procedures, and standard form contracts.
  • Build strong relationships with and support other members of the legal team as required.

We’d love to hear from people with

  • Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Ireland.
  • At least 3 years of commercial transactions experience, ideally in a business law firm or in-house in a technology company.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting and communication skills with the ability to foster relationships and collaborate with internal clients.
  • Experience of IT and SaaS contracts preferred.
  • Experience with and a demonstrated ability to negotiate data-privacy related agreements.
  • Ability to give succinct, commercially driven legal advice.
  • Familiarity with revenue recognition principles.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and drive them through to completion within required timeframes.
  • Works well autonomously and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Fluency in English.

SurveyMonkey believes in-person collaboration is valuable for building relationships, fostering community, and enhancing our speed and execution in problem-solving and decision-making. As such, you will be required to work from a SurveyMonkey office up to 1 day per week.
