Key Responsibilities:
Quality, Compliance & Data Integrity:• Ensure all toolpaths align with customer specifications, internal standards, and dimensional accuracy requirements.• Conduct peer reviews to validate design integrity and manufacturing compatibility.• Liaise with quality engineers and project stakeholders to resolve data or geometry concerns.• Support design modifications, engineering changes, and issue resolution during tool build or launch.
Continuous Improvement & Standardization:• Contribute to CAD/CAM best practices, automation initiatives, and template development.• Implement and maintain naming conventions, file structures, and documentation standards.• Identify process improvements that enhance design cycle times, accuracy, or downstream usability.• Participate in root cause investigations for design-related build or tryout issues.
Team Leadership & Development:• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior CAD/CAM team members.• Foster an environment of collaboration, accountability, and engineering ownership.• Support onboarding and upskilling efforts for new staff on CAD tools and division standards.• Act as the technical lead in design reviews and tool kickoff meetings.
Cross-Functional Communication:• Communicate effectively with tool designers, engineering leads, and project managers.• Coordinate with external suppliers on tool data packages, file exchange, and revisions.• Collaborate with quoting, purchasing, and build teams to align on scope and technical requirements.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:• Post-secondary diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Tool Design, or equivalent.• Minimum 5 years of CAD/CAM experience in a tooling or manufacturing environment.• Proficient in CATIA V5• Strong understanding of SPF forming dies, Class A die development, and stamping processes.• Proven ability to interpret OEM part data and translate into accurate tooling outputs.• Previous experience in tool design or programming for forming and stamping operations.• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.• Effective leadership, communication, and coaching abilities.• Familiarity with GD&T, CAD file formats, and revision control best practices.• Ability to prioritize workload across multiple programs and respond to changing demands.• Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and quality.• Willingness to work rotating shifts and provide extended coverage when needed.
