The Liquid Credit Strategies Team (“LCS”) manages $114B in AUM across diversified portfolios of fixed income investments, primarily consisting of senior secured floating rate bank loans and high yield bonds of non-investment grade companies. The group manages and sub-advises 166 funds accounts in US and Europe, including Collateralized Loan Obligations, Separately Managed Accounts, Commingled Funds, Closed End Funds and Business Development Companies. LCS also invests in the debt and equity tranches of CLOs.

The Role:

Reporting to BXCI’s Head of Risk in NY, the successful candidate will act as Blackstone’s Head of Risk for Ireland and will be PCF-14 for the MIFID firm and the Designated Person for Risk for the AIFM. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a robust and independent (2nd line) risk management framework for Blackstone’s Irish MIFID advisor and AIFM leveraging existing processes and controls, in line with the Group, BXCI level frameworks
  • Ensuring a robust control environment for all risk management matters
  • Maintain and monitor the effectiveness of the risk management framework to meet requirements
  • Coordinate local resiliency program assessments, including Business Continuity Planning and Operational Resiliency
  • Ensuring appropriate reporting and remediation of process failures
  • Supporting the launch of new investment structures to ensure they are integrated into the risk framework.
  • Coordinating and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality risk management analysis and reporting to the senior management and governing bodies.
  • Dealing with internal and external audit requests related to the risk management activity
  • Responsible for dealing with regulators for risk management matters
  • Manage juniors, both direct and indirect team members located locally and in offshore support centers, actively coaching and developing talent

Experience / Competencies:

  • Educational Background: Degree or professional qualification in a relevant or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Risk Management, preferably within the asset management industry, with a deep understanding of risk management techniques, methods, and strong knowledge of local regulatory requirements, particularly MiFID.
  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial instruments and markets; familiarity with CLOs is an advantage.
  • Risk Management Approach: Proven ability to apply independent judgment with a proactive and pragmatic approach to risk management.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, with strong time management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strategic Thinking: Able to think strategically and focus on the bigger picture; capable of generating and implementing creative solutions to challenges and new business initiatives. Experience in transformation initiatives, leading change projects, and designing processes and controls is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborative team player with the confidence to build relationships and serve as the primary contact for a range of senior stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint; strong interest in leveraging technology to enhance processes.
  • Additional Tools: Experience with AuditBoard is an advantage.
