Job Summary
The Business Development Specialist supports the Global Business Development Lead (GBDL) in advancing FFC’S commercial growth strategy. This role contributes to a wide range of commercial activities including proposal development, opportunity capture, sales planning and reporting, pipeline management, and customer engagement support.
This is a hybrid role with minimum of 2 days in office in the Ottawa area.
Roles and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with technical and operational teams to help coordinate commercial pursuits, support strategic growth initiatives. This role is well suited for someone who is interested in working in a technical environment at the intersection of fusion energy, advanced technology, and project delivery.
Required Strengths and Competencies
Support the Global Business Development Lead (GBDL) in coordinating commercial bids and proposals across a range of procurement models, including public procurements, strategic partnerships, and sole-source opportunities.
Coordinate and support small multidisciplinary teams in preparing proposal submissions, collecting technical inputs, tracking deliverables, and managing timelines.
Maintain and improve FFC’s commercial pipeline and opportunity tracking tools to support visibility into business development activities, revenue forecasting, and future resource planning.
Support the development and execution of commercial capture and win strategies for priority opportunities.
Assist in preparing customer-facing materials including presentations, capability statements, conference materials, and other sales and marketing content.
Support planning, reporting, and internal coordination activities related to business development and commercial operations.
Collaborate with technical, operations, and leadership teams to ensure commercial activities align with organizational priorities and delivery capabilities.
Contribute to continuous improvement of commercial processes, tools, templates, and reporting practices as FFC continues to scale.
Deliver assigned commercial and proposal activities within established timelines and expectations.
Maintain accurate commercial pipeline and reporting information.
Support effective coordination and communication across internal stakeholders involved in commercial pursuits.
Represent FFC professionally in interactions with customers, partners, and external stakeholders.
Must have
3-5 years of experience in a commercial, project coordination, engineering, consulting, or business operations role.
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (particularly Excel).
Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
Comfortable working in a growing and evolving organization where processes and priorities may continue to develop over time.
Nice to have
Engineering degree or science degree (e.g., mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or related field) is considered an asset but not required.
Experience in fusion energy, nuclear energy, advanced technology, or other highly technical industries is considered an asset but not required.
Experience supporting proposals, procurement responses, project coordination, or commercial operations is considered an asset.
