Dublin-based consulting and technology firm Accenture has agreed to acquire Ookla, strengthening its ability to help businesses and governments improve network reliability, security and customer experience.
In the announcement, Accenture said the deal brings together its AI and consulting capabilities with Ookla’s large-scale network performance data, including insights from Speedtest and Downdetector. By combining these offerings, Accenture aims to give communications providers and enterprises clearer visibility into how Wi-Fi and 5G networks perform and where they need improvement.
The added intelligence will support applications such as fraud detection in banking, smart home monitoring for utilities and traffic optimization in retail and logistics, as Accenture integrates Ookla’s testing and analytics capabilities into its broader network engineering and AI services.
“Modern networks have evolved from simple infrastructure into business-critical platforms. Without the ability to measure performance, organizations cannot optimize experience, revenue or security. By acquiring Ookla, we will help our clients across business and government scale AI safely and build the trusted data foundations they need to deliver the reliable, seamless connectivity that creates value,” Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture, said in a statement.
Seattle-based Ookla, a division of Ziff Davis, Inc., brings expertise in software and radio frequency engineering as well as data science. Its network intelligence platform is powered by more than 250 million consumer-initiated tests each month, alongside controlled drive, walk and embedded testing tools that provide additional performance validation.
