Job DescriptionU.S. Bank Europe (USBE) has approved it’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy focused on compliance and management of ESG Risks.
The ESG Europe Office is part of USBE’s CAO Function (exact reporting lines TBD) and interacts closely with the U.S. Bank Sustainability Office.
The Analyst will principally support the ESG Regulatory and Strategy Lead, in development and execution of the ESG strategy. In particular, the individual will provide program management, data analysis and subject matter expertise in carbon accounting, decarbonization pathways across the real economy and to support Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions measurement and reductions; Scope 3, Category 15 (client) related financed emissions analysis, strategic engagement and reporting to support interim target-setting.
In the short term, the role will initially be focused on establishment of pathways, processes and data strategy to formalize and create consistency and reliability on data, estimation assumptions and sources.
Role Purpose:
The ESG Data and Risk Analyst supports the organisation’s ESG agenda through high‑quality data analysis, regulatory monitoring and risk‑focused insights. The role contributes to ESG risk identification, reporting and compliance by producing accurate, well‑controlled data and analysis in line with regulatory expectations and internal frameworks.
The role operates under the direction of senior ESG, Risk and Business leaders and focuses on execution and delivery rather than strategy ownership.
In supporting the strategy the Analyst will support and partner with business stakeholders in the Sustainable Finance Team in U.S. Bank’s Impact Finance organization and various business teams, in particular supporting in interpreting data analysis and forward looking climate and ESG risk awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, validate and analyse ESG data across environmental, social and governance topics.
- Maintain ESG datasets, trackers, dashboards, KPIs and KRIs in line with agreed methodologies.
- Support ESG risk assessments through data preparation and analytical inputs.
- Monitor ESG‑related regulatory and standards developments (e.g. CSRD, ISSB, GRI) and summarise potential impacts.
- Contribute to ESG disclosures, regulatory submissions and internal reporting packs.
- Support audit and assurance activities by providing traceable data and evidence.
- Assist with climate and environmental metrics (e.g. emissions, transition indicators) as part of wider ESG reporting.
- Support ESG governance forums through preparation of data and briefing materials.
- Supports the European ESG Forum including data, KPIs, KRIs and cover for the ESG Regulatory and Strategy Lead.
- Stay abreast of the current risk environment and work with business line risk partners to evaluate risk and assess current policy.
- Stays informed on the changing landscape of ESG including emerging trends, stakeholder expectations, and rating/ranking criteria
Decision‑Making Authority
- Determines analytical approaches and data validation methods within defined frameworks.
- Prioritises tasks within assigned workstreams to meet reporting deadlines.
- Escalates regulatory interpretation issues, methodology changes and material risks.
Skills and Experience
- Strong analytical and data management skills, with experience working with ESG or risk‑related datasets.
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools such as Power BI and SQL.
- Working knowledge of ESG risks, regulatory expectations and reporting frameworks.
- Strong attention to detail, with a focus on data accuracy, controls and auditability.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, finance, risk, data analytics or a related discipline, with relevant experience in ESG, risk, compliance or reporting roles.
